Yoga
Yoga was held each morning on the sprawling luscious lawn amongst the cypress trees. What a healing way to start the day. Early morning, birds chirping and our yoga mats spread out on the cool green grass. Everybody brings something to Yoga and Yoga gives something to everyone who practices it. Yoga was new for many of the girls as well as the women volunteers. We as a group benefitted from this peaceful and purposeful way to prepare for the day ahead. Some of the poses that the girls learned were Tadasana, Warrior Pose, Tree Pose, Utadasana, and of course everyone's favorite shavasana.
What did the girls gain from practicing Yoga? First, 6:30 a.m. comes pretty darn quick after a full day at the retreat but bless them there were there and participated. They became aware of their strengths and weaknesses both physically and mentally through the poses. The girls saw the connection between their own life and Yoga; both a journey and a balance between all things. Namaste'
On the first morning, they were mumbling…."Oh man, this is so early…I need to hold my arms up how high?" As the week progressed – yes, they embraced the experience and vowed to go home and sign up for a class. The pictures tell the story of intent and commitment.
Thank you to Piper and Jill, our yoga instructors and a crucial part of our dedicated Angel Faces Team of volunteers.
